Alonso and Stroll Receive Grid Penalties at Azerbaijan Grand Prix

B-Empire Magazine

Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, Aston Martin drivers, will receive grid penalties at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix due to exceeding the allowed quotas of engine components.

Alonso will benefit from a new internal combustion engine, exceeding the limit of four engines per season. He will also receive a new turbocharger, his fifth of the season, as well as a ninth auxiliary power unit component, while only six are permitted.

Meanwhile, Stroll will use his sixth turbo, seventh energy storage unit, sixth electronic control unit, and eighth auxiliary power unit component.

According to regulations, the first infraction results in a ten-place grid penalty, with subsequent infractions incurring cumulative five-place penalties. If the penalty exceeds fifteen places, the driver must start from the back of the grid.

The exact penalty amounts for Alonso and Stroll have not yet been confirmed, but they significantly complicate Aston Martin’s chances of scoring points in Baku.
