Bolsonaro Connects Better with Brazil’s Expanding Middle Class, Says Oxford’s Felipe Krause

Felipe Krause, head of the Brazilian studies program at the University of Oxford, commented on the political situation in Brazil during the recent elections. He highlights increasing political polarization, but above all a general fatigue with a political class seen as repetitive.

According to him, the first round showed a significant consolidation of the ruling Brazilian right. The expanding middle class, increasingly attracted to entrepreneurship and individualism, is an electoral base that “Bolsonarismo” has been particularly successful in reaching, thus surpassing Lula in this segment.
