These centers employ hundreds of thousands of workers in Southeast Asia who defraud people worldwide, notably in the United States, Europe, and China. The financial damage to American citizens alone is estimated at nearly $10 billion per year.
Paradoxically, these scammers are often themselves victims, enslaved according to human rights advocates, highlighting the complexity and severity of the situation.
