Disinformation in Africa: Dominique Tchimbakala Explains Mechanisms and Solutions

Dominique Tchimbakala, a Franco-Congolese journalist, has published The Invisible Virus. Essay on Disinformation in Africa with Riveneuve editions. In this work, she analyzes the mechanisms of disinformation on the continent and its social consequences.

In an interview broadcast on France 24’s Journal de l’Afrique, the journalist emphasizes that social media have become fertile ground for the spread of rumors, political manipulations, and disinformation campaigns, a phenomenon amplified by artificial intelligence.

She stresses the responsibilities of both local and foreign actors in spreading false information and highlights the growing distrust toward traditional media.

Dominique Tchimbakala also discusses solutions to learn how to recognize false information, notably the roles of schools, media, and citizens. She questions how to combat disinformation without threatening freedom of expression.
