Five months after the official declaration of the Ebola outbreak in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the disease continues to spread in the region.
According to RFI, more than 9,000 confirmed cases have been recorded, resulting in over 4,300 deaths. This outbreak is the deadliest ever documented in the country.
Several obstacles complicate the response efforts: late detection of cases, poorly identified transmission chains, ongoing insecurity in the region, and the absence of a specific vaccine with proven efficacy.
