B-Empire Magazine

A pre-COP climate summit is taking place this week in Fiji, an archipelago particularly threatened by rising sea levels, reports France 24 on Thursday, October 6, 2026.

Island nations, whose survival is at stake due to this phenomenon, seek to have greater influence in global climate negotiations. Their primary objective is to keep global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C.

According to estimates mentioned during this pre-COP, by 2050 approximately 1.2 billion people could be forced to flee due to rising ocean levels.
