Increased Violence by Israeli Settlers Against Palestinians in West Bank, UN Reports

B-Empire Magazine

In the occupied West Bank, violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians has sharply intensified in recent years, according to a report from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) cited by RFI.

Settler attacks causing casualties or property damage increased from an average of 1.5 per day in 2021 to 6.7 during the first eight months of 2026. This rise occurs amid a tense political climate, just weeks before the Israeli legislative elections.

Since the far-right government took office in December 2022, 231 new outposts have been established in the West Bank, according to the Israeli organization Peace Now, contributing to escalating tensions.

Many Palestinians injured in these attacks denounce the impunity enjoyed by settlers and highlight the lack of support from the Israeli justice system, which they say is unsympathetic to their plight. They find themselves isolated, facing a financially weakened Palestinian authority, and suffer lasting physical and psychological consequences.
