On October 1, 2026, Bruno Cathala, French judge and first registrar of the International Criminal Court (ICC), reflected on the historical significance of the Nuremberg Trials, which concluded 80 years earlier on October 1, 1946.
This trial, the first international criminal tribunal in history, is regarded as a foundational event that changed the course of world history. It is also recognized as the direct predecessor of the ICC, a major institution of international criminal justice.
Bruno Cathala, who is also honorary chamber president at the Court of Cassation and author of “Juger le mal,” emphasized during his interview on RFI that this trial laid the groundwork for modern international criminal law.
