Behind the Scenes of Schumacher ’94: A Deep Dive into Michael Schumacher’s Historic Season

B-Empire Magazine

The documentary Schumacher ’94, available on Netflix since October 2, revisits the season when Michael Schumacher won his first Formula 1 World Championship.

Director Christin Freitag told F1.com that she explored approximately 1,300 hours of archival footage to capture not only iconic moments, such as the races at Imola and Adelaide, but also lesser-known instances that reveal the driver’s personality.

The film combines current interviews with key figures including Corinna Schumacher, Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone, David Coulthard, and Willi Weber, alongside period footage, immersing viewers in this intense season.

Freitag crafted an immersive narrative, using about 60 to 70% archival footage, and incorporated a soundtrack blending original music with 1990s hits like “Common People” by Pulp and “Rush Rush” by Paula Abdul, the latter holding special significance for Michael and Corinna.
