On September 18, 2026, NASA officially awarded SpaceX three additional missions to transport astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). These missions, named Crew-15, Crew-16, and Crew-17, are planned for 2027 and 2028 under the Commercial Crew Transportation Capability (CCtCap) contract.
This modified contract, valued at $946 million, covers all ground operations, launch, on-orbit operations, return and recovery, cargo transport, and rescue capability during ISS docking. The performance period extends through 2030, bringing the total value of the CCtCap contract with SpaceX to $5.92 billion.
NASA initially awarded this contract in 2014 to Boeing and SpaceX as part of a public-private partnership to provide crew transportation to the ISS. SpaceX was certified for astronaut transport in November 2020. Currently, SpaceX’s Crew-12 mission is in orbit, docked at the station.
The missions will use the Dragon spacecraft and the Falcon 9 rocket, capable of carrying up to four astronauts along with essential equipment. This award reaffirms NASA’s continued confidence in SpaceX to maintain regular access to the International Space Station.
