Tigray rebel authorities’ forces took control of Mekele airport, the capital of Ethiopia’s Tigray regional state, on Wednesday, September 23, according to France 24 on Thursday, September 24.
This strategic infrastructure takeover is accompanied by clashes between these rebel forces and the Ethiopian federal army in the neighboring Afar region.
This escalation raises fears of a resumption of large-scale conflict in northern Ethiopia, a region already marked by ongoing tensions.
