The ruling junta in Guinea-Bissau announced on Thursday, October 1, that security conditions were not sufficient to guarantee the return of former president in exile Umaro Sissoco Embalo.
Embalo had declared his intention to return to the country to run in the presidential election scheduled for December.
Vincent Foucher, a CNRS researcher and specialist on Guinea-Bissau, commented on these statements, highlighting divisions within the Guinean army regarding Embalo’s figure.
