Ahmed H. Zewail, born on February 26, 1946, in Damanhur, Egypt, was a prominent chemist known for his contributions to physical chemistry. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1999 for his studies of the transition states of chemical reactions using femtosecond spectroscopy. Zewail was also a pioneer in using ultrafast techniques to observe chemical processes. He passed away on August 2, 2016.
