Carlos Saavedra Lamas, born on November 1, 1878, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was an Argentine politician and diplomat. He is best known for his role as the father of the Argentine Antiwar Pact of 1933. Saavedra Lamas also played a key role in mediating peace between Paraguay and Bolivia in 1935. In 1936, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his contributions to peace in South America. He passed away on May 5, 1959.
