Charles Jules Henri Nicolle, born on September 21, 1866, in Rouen, France, was a French physician and microbiologist. He is best known for his research on typhus, an infectious disease transmitted by lice. In 1928, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his significant contributions to the understanding and prevention of this disease. Nicolle also served as the director of the Pasteur Institute in Tunis, where he continued his work on infectious diseases. He passed away on February 28, 1936.
