He is best known for co-discovering the double helix structure of DNA with James Watson in 1953. This discovery was fundamental to the understanding of genetics and molecular biology. In 1962, Crick was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material. He passed away on July 28, 2004.
