Frederick Grant Banting, born on November 14, 1891, in Alliston, Canada, was a Canadian physician and physiologist. He is best known for his discovery of insulin, a major advancement in the treatment of diabetes. In 1923, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for this discovery. Banting also contributed to medical research throughout his career until his untimely death on February 21, 1941.
