James Dewey Watson, born on April 6, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, was an American molecular biologist known for his fundamental contributions to biology. In 1962, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material. Watson is also recognized for his role in the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA, in collaboration with Francis Crick. He passed away on November 6, 2025.
