Jerome Karle, born on June 18, 1918, in New York, was an American chemist known for his significant contributions to the determination of crystal structures. In 1985, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his outstanding achievements in the development of direct methods for determining crystal structures. Karle was also a pioneer in the use of X-ray diffraction. He passed away on June 6, 2013.
