Leonid Vitaliyevich Kantorovich, born on January 19, 1912, in St. Petersburg, was a Soviet economist and mathematician. He is best known for his contributions to the theory of optimum resource allocation. In 1975, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his influential work in this field. Kantorovich also played a key role in the development of linear programming, a mathematical method used to optimize resources. He passed away on April 7, 1986.
