Mohamed ElBaradei, born on June 17, 1942, in Cairo, Egypt, is an Egyptian politician and lawyer. He served as the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from 1997 to 2009. In 2005, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to prevent nuclear energy from being used for military purposes and to ensure that nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is used in the safest possible way.
