Pär Fabian Lagerkvist, born on May 23, 1891, in Växjö, Sweden, was a Swedish poet and novelist. He is known for his exploration of existential and human questions through his literary work. Lagerkvist was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1951 for the artistic vigor and true independence of mind with which he endeavours in his poetry to find answers to the eternal questions confronting mankind. He passed away on July 11, 1974.
