He is best known for his discovery of the inert gaseous elements found in air, which greatly enhanced the understanding of gas chemistry. In 1904, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his contributions to this field. Ramsay also played a key role in the development of the periodic table of elements. He passed away on July 23, 1916.
