Thomas Stearns Eliot, born on September 26, 1888, in St. Louis, Missouri, was an American poet, playwright, and literary critic. He is regarded as one of the major figures of modern poetry. Eliot was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948 for his outstanding, pioneer contribution to present-day poetry. He is also known for his influential works such as 'The Waste Land' and 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock'. Eliot passed away on January 4, 1965.
