He is best known for developing the input-output method, which analyzes intersectoral relationships within an economy. In 1973, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his significant contributions to understanding important economic problems. Leontief was also a pioneer in applying this method to critical economic issues. He passed away on February 5, 1999.
