Willy Brandt, born on December 18, 1913, in Lübeck, Germany, was a German politician and Chancellor of West Germany from 1969 to 1974. He is best known for his policy of rapprochement with the East, known as 'Neue Ostpolitik'. In 1971, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for paving the way for a meaningful dialogue between East and West. Brandt passed away on October 8, 1992.
