Frédéric Louault, director of the Americas Studies Center at the Free University of Brussels (ULB), stated on Sunday, October 4, on France 24 that the first round of the presidential election in Brazil, held the same day, is expected to be very close between the two main candidates.

According to him, there is “a higher chance that the two candidates will be neck and neck in the first round, each around 45% of valid votes,” indicating a very balanced competition.

He added that the final verdict of this election should be decided in the second round, scheduled in three weeks, where voters will choose between the two finalists.
