Pink October, the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, has begun in Côte d’Ivoire, where this disease is the most common cancer among women, reports France 24 on Thursday.

Dr. Hugues Abe, a gynecologist-obstetrician, emphasized during the Africa Television News the importance of early screening to improve management and prognosis of this disease.

The Pink October month aims to inform, raise awareness, and encourage women to get screened in order to detect breast cancer at an early stage, which increases the chances of successful treatment.
