The head of the peacekeeping operation in the Central African Republic, Valentine Rugwabiza, warned against a rapid withdrawal of peacekeepers during a briefing to diplomats on October 20.

As the Security Council negotiates the renewal of Minusca’s mandate until November 15, she presented the progress made in Bangui while recommending maintaining a sufficient force. This caution is due to still fragile security situations in the northwest and southwest of the country.

Valentine Rugwabiza, a Rwandan national, will leave her post in the coming days but emphasizes the necessity of a continued peacekeeper presence to stabilize these sensitive areas.
