In the first quarter of 2026, China became the leading destination for Rwandan exports, accounting for 26% of the total, compared to less than 5% a year earlier, reports France 24.
This remarkable increase is driven by the removal of Chinese tariffs on nearly all Rwandan products, thereby facilitating access to the Chinese market.
However, access to this market also depends on compliance with stringent sanitary standards, which remains a challenge for some Rwandan exporters.
