The euro has fallen to its lowest level in 17 months against the US dollar due to concerns about France’s ability to control its public finances, reports France 24 on October 5, 2026.

The single currency has lost nearly 7% since its peak at the end of January. This decline comes as markets grow worried about French debt.

At the same time, global oil prices have decreased despite ongoing tensions around the Arabian Peninsula. This drop is mainly explained by the G7 agreement to release up to 100 million barrels from strategic reserves, as well as the return of Persian Gulf oil flows to pre-war levels.
