In Guadeloupe, approximately 80,000 residents are regularly deprived of drinking water and must obtain supplies from stations set up by local municipalities.

This situation is caused by an aging water network, described as “leaky pipes,” resulting in the loss of 70% of the water produced on the island before it reaches taps.

The network is currently undergoing repairs, but the Court of Auditors estimates that at the current pace of work, it would take 208 years to fully renew the system.

Additionally, a judicial inquiry was opened in Paris on September 24 concerning this water crisis in Guadeloupe.
