French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Monday that he had “very constructive” discussions with US President Donald Trump regarding conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine during a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to France 24, these talks focused notably on the situation in Syria and the war in Ukraine. Macron sought to persuade Trump to adopt a tougher stance towards Russian President Vladimir Putin and to firmly support Ukraine’s sovereignty.

This bilateral meeting, Trump’s first with a foreign leader during this annual gathering, comes amid ongoing tensions in these two major conflict zones.
