The Malian army announced on Tuesday, October 6, that it had entered the city of Kidal in northern Mali.

This advance follows a strategic withdrawal by the Tuareg separatist rebels of the Front for the Liberation of Azawad (FLA), who had taken control of Kidal at the end of April.

The rebels abandoned the locality in the face of military operations aimed at retaking this strategic position.
