Osvalde Lewat, a Franco-Cameroonian writer, documentary filmmaker, and photographer, returns with a new novel titled Un corps indocile, published by Philippe Rey and Jimsaan editions.

The novel tells the story of Deffo, an African couturier living in Paris whose life is upended when persistent pain challenges his certainties.

Through this character’s journey across Europe, Africa, and China, Osvalde Lewat examines themes such as masculinity, vulnerability, work, and power relations.

This work follows her first novel, Les Aquatiques (2021), which had already explored friendship, social taboos, homosexuality, and female emancipation.

In an interview with France 24, Osvalde Lewat explains how literature allows her to question society, individual freedom, and the constraints imposed by the body and social conventions.
