In November 1992, off the coast of Portugal, eight African stowaways from Ghana and Cameroon were thrown into the sea by the Ukrainian sailors of the cargo ship MC Ruby, en route to Le Havre. Only one man, Ofusu Kingsley Cudjoe, survived this tragedy.
Journalist Philippe Broussard of the daily newspaper Le Monde reconstructed this dramatic story, tracing the victims’ journeys and the circumstances of the event. His investigation has been adapted into a graphic novel titled The Tragic Odyssey of the MC Ruby, published by Dupuis editions.
