On Sunday, September 27, Swiss citizens will vote on an initiative put forward by the country’s largest party, the Swiss People’s Party (UDC), aiming to toughen Switzerland’s historic neutrality.
The proposed text excludes any alliance with a military organization and prohibits the imposition of economic sanctions against a third country. This initiative has been labeled “pro-Russian” by some opponents, who fear it could limit Switzerland’s ability to respond to international conflicts.
According to available polls, the proposal is expected to be rejected by the majority of voters.
