The fight against the Ebola epidemic in the Central African Republic is made difficult by weaknesses in border surveillance, particularly in the Zemio region in the southeast of the country, near the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to a report by France 24, the repeated absence of health agents at sanitary checkpoints hinders the detection of potential cases. Furthermore, residents continue to cross the border through unofficial points, thereby evading any surveillance.
These conditions raise concerns about the risk of the virus spreading from the DRC into the Central African Republic, where resources to effectively control cross-border flows remain limited.
