The COP17 biodiversity conference opened this Monday in Yerevan with the aim of reviewing the progress on international commitments adopted in 2022 at the Montreal conference.

These commitments aim to protect global biodiversity by 2030, notably through ending environmentally harmful subsidies, increasing funding for species protection, and restoring degraded ecosystems.

According to France 24, the mid-term assessment is considered quite worrying. Countries are behind on nearly all the necessary measures, jeopardizing the chances of halting the ongoing mass extinction.

This situation highlights the urgent need to intensify international efforts to meet the set objectives and preserve planetary biodiversity.
