The European Central Bank (ECB) launched a call for applications on 15 September 2026, inviting e-commerce and mobile commerce merchants operating in the eurozone to participate in the digital euro pilot scheduled for 2027.

This initiative follows previous ECB announcements, notably the one on 30 July 2026, which detailed the accessibility features of the digital euro application. The app will be designed to exceed the requirements of the European accessibility directive, with usability and accessibility testing planned for 2027.

Another call for applications, issued on 28 September 2026, targets private companies and organizations interested in collaborating with the ECB to explore innovation opportunities offered by the digital euro infrastructure. Applications for this second call remain open until 9 November 2026.
