On October 16, 2026, the European Commission presented a new strategy aimed at strengthening the fight against human trafficking within the European Union.
According to the Commission, more than 20,000 victims were recorded in 2023 and 2024, representing a 16.1% increase compared to previous years. However, many cases remain unreported.
Trafficking takes multiple forms, including sexual exploitation, labor exploitation, forced criminality, forced begging, and forced marriage.
