The Ivory Coast has set an ambitious goal: to eradicate illegal gold mining within six months. To achieve this, authorities have intensified their efforts to dismantle clandestine mining sites.

RFI accompanied an operation by the Special Surveillance and Intervention Brigade (BSSI), a unit under the Ministry of Water and Forests responsible for combating illegal gold mining. This operation took place near Mouyassué, a village in the South-Comoé region, located over 200 km east of Abidjan, near the border with Ghana.

These recent actions demonstrate the Ivorian authorities’ determination to put an end to this scourge, which affects both the environment and the local economy.
