Since October 2025, a massive toxic gas leak has been surfacing in the village of Bille, located in the Niger Delta in Nigeria, threatening the very existence of this community.

The gas escapes through aging pipelines buried for decades, causing a constant noise and visible bubbles on the surface, which have become part of the daily life of the residents.

The Nigerian federal government has ordered an investigation conducted by the National Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to assess this concerning situation.

Bille is a large fishing village accessible only by boat, located 45 km from Port Harcourt, and hosts facilities operated by the oil company Shell.
