Sergio Perez considered his performance at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku to be “one of my best weekends” in Formula 1, according to official statements from his Cadillac team.
The Mexican driver, winner at Baku in 2021 and 2023 with Red Bull, had hoped for a strong result but had to cope with a 20th place in qualifying and a three-place grid penalty for impeding a competitor.
During the race, Perez managed to stay close to the midfield pack, finishing 14th, a result that matches his best of the season with Cadillac.
“I drove at a high level all weekend, especially in the race, but we are simply one to two seconds too slow to compete with the others,” he explained, highlighting notably a lack of straight-line speed due to high aerodynamic drag.
Cadillac has yet to score points this season, with the best result being 13th place achieved by Valtteri Bottas in China.
Perez indicated that no major updates are planned before the end of the season, but he hopes the team can improve operationally to approach 2027 in better conditions.
