Sunville, an afrofuturist creation, was presented at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as part of the inauguration of the new Unlimited section, dedicated to art forms without borders.

This musical theatre imagines a society of tomorrow on an island inhabited by survivors, between the end of the world and a promised land. The texts are by Congolese poet Fiston Mwanza Mujila, the staging is by Stephanie Thiersch, and the music, blending Congolese rumba, jazz, electronic, and contemporary music, is composed by Sofia Jernberg, who was born in Ethiopia.

This vibrant world premiere addresses themes such as exile, memory, and reconciliation.
