During their mission from April 1 to 10, 2026, the Artemis II crew observed five very faint lunar impact flashes, described as “pinprick” (tiny points), from their Orion spacecraft located 46,000 miles from the Moon.

Astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor “Ike” Glover, and Jeremy Hansen recorded these observations on an image of the Moon occulting the Sun, identifying the locations of impacts caused by rocky fragments striking the lunar surface.

These data, accompanied by images and audio recordings of the crew’s observations, are now accessible to the global scientific community as well as the general public for further study.
