The French government will issue in the coming days the first checks from the Canicule, Sécheresse, Incendies (Casi) plan designed to support farmers affected by drought.
This plan, announced at over one billion euros, is however criticized for not matching the real needs of agricultural operations, particularly regarding adaptation to extreme climate episodes.
Representatives from the agricultural sector emphasize that farm adaptation remains significantly behind, posing a major challenge to the sustainability of farms.
Moreover, the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the 2028-2024 period is currently under negotiation in Brussels, aiming to incorporate measures better suited to climate challenges.
Several sector stakeholders are already proposing solutions to better finance farm adaptation and address recurring crises such as drought.
