Fatoumata Diawara unveils “MASSA,” her most personal album to date, where she explores profound themes such as motherhood, faith, memory, the loss of her father, and resilience.

Composed and arranged with Matthieu Chedid, also known as -M-, this twelve-track work blends intimate subjects with long-standing themes in her oeuvre: women, heritage, Mali, and freedom.

In an interview with Fatimata Wane for Journal de l’Afrique on France 24, the Malian singer discusses what her father passed on to her, the impact of motherhood on her perspective, and how she views her guitar as a weapon.

She also addresses the challenge of carrying Mali in her music without being confined to a fixed image of Africa.

Fatoumata Diawara will perform at the Olympia in Paris on November 25 to present this new album.
