German Chancellor Friedrich Merz traveled to Kyiv on Sunday to express Germany’s solidarity with Ukraine following recent Russian attacks targeting infrastructure in Kyiv, including three major bridges.
This visit comes after the German Foreign Minister called for de-escalation during talks with his Russian counterpart at the UN, which drew criticism from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who urged Berlin to stop arming Ukraine.
Additionally, Moscow on Saturday requested foreign nationals and diplomats to leave Ukraine, heightening tensions in the region.
