Saudi Arabia stated that the holy city of Mecca was targeted in a drone attack carried out by the pro-Iranian Houthi rebels, according to a report published Friday by France 24.

The Houthis denied any involvement in the attack, rejecting Riyadh’s accusations.

Meanwhile, the UN reported that since the resumption of fighting in early September between the Houthis and pro-government forces in Yemen, at least 112,000 people have been displaced internally, while nearly 3,000 others have sought refuge in Djibouti.

Last week, the Houthis took control of the Red Sea coastline, strengthening their hold over the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects Europe to Asia via the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
